In a conversation with my Sacred Circle – five friends who meet once a month for “check-in” and a spirit-enriching ceremony – we were talking about those bleak times when sadness and despair seem to overpower all our excellent self-care practices.
Find your joy? Seems to be lost indefinitely. Follow your bliss? Don’t even remember how that feels. Focus on your purpose and intention? Haven’t a clue what that is any more.
One of us was just coming out of a bleak time and the others of us have all experienced those times too (most people have!).
Excellent advice from a psychologist was, “Just do the next right thing.” Never mind trying to use your usual practices. Forget searching for a long-term path. For now, just do the next right thing.
Our conversation about times of deep sustainable contentment that each of us has had, as well as what we learned during bleak times, led us to adopt the psychologist’s mantra for the next month. “Just do the next right thing.”
Today, to my surprise, my next right thing is to write this note and not a feature article! I’ll be back next week with thoughts to help you gear up for the fall and news about new products and services I’m offering.
In the meantime, I can’t resist mentioning Every Day Manifestations. Grateful subscribers send notes all the time saying how these short daily meditations are good for their day and good for their soul. Could they be your next right thing? Find out more in Resource of the Week.
